How can a wood science and technology consulting firm help you?
Wood is an amazing material. It is easy to design wood structures, it can be worked with simple tools, and is generally cost effective. One downside, however, is that it is subject to rot and termite attack when moisture is in play.
In the life of any wood product, there are three distinct time periods where expertise is required:
Before there’s a problem. In our experience, any potential problem with the use of wood products in construction can be avoided by preemptively developing adequate specifications for preservative treatment where treated wood is required. It also requires careful examination of construction methods to ensure that wood products are protected from moisture and insects by design.
During the problem. Often, problems with decay and insects are discovered after a wood product is in use or a building has been occupied. Thoughtful strategies to mitigate existing problems and remediate wood elements so that they may continue to be used is critical.
After the problem. Unfortunately, sometimes it’s too late and a product fails, causing damage or injury…that’s when the finger-pointing begins. Forensic investigation reveals the cause of the broken pole or the rotting beam, and an honest assessment is required to bring the matter to resolution.
We’re experienced in advising our clients during all of these phases. Please reach out for an initial consultation to see if we might be able to help you.
